Educational Talent Search is a federally funded pre-college program that was born out of the 1965 Higher Education Act. It remains an important part of the Council for Opportunity in Education’s TRIO programs and serves young people in grades six through twelve. This program also provides academic support along with counseling and post-secondary information. Educational Talent Search identifies and assists individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds/or have parents who have not graduated from college who have the potential to succeed in higher education. There are currently, over 386,000 participants in 471 Talent Search Programs nationwide.
Our community benefits from the economic empowerment as more local students attend and graduate from college due to the continuity of our services.Florida International University (FIU) establishes positive relationships with our local community through the TRIO programs. Through FIU Educational Talent Search (ETS),can effectively engage the community and are better positioned to serve low income students. ETS has provided upward mobility for low-income students nationwide for forty years and has quickly become a vital part of the North Dade community.
